The Inquisition

It was an ecclesiastic tribunal whose aim is to struggle against the heresy, crimes against the Christian faith. This comes from the inquisition of middle age, founded in 1184. Its name came from the system: a judge looked for the person who committed the crime and then they got a detention.
The beginning of this is in 1478, set by the Catholic Kings through an order given"Order of Fe" of Pedro Berruguete, 1500 by the Pope Sixtus IV. The Catholic Kings needed a social and political union in the Kingdom. This kingdom had a lot of jewish that professed their religion in hidden places.
The Inquisition Tribunal caused a lot of polemics. Because of his lack of tolerance Spain stayed isolated from cultural, scientific and philosophic ideas that transformed the rest of Europe. The methods used were cruel and without any tolerance than any other tribunal in Europe. The punishment consisted in going to prison, tortures or death in a bonfire.
The Christian Kings create the inquisition in 1482, till the end of their time and during a lot of years their tribunal was the Alcazar. The Alcazar was partly modified for this aim: the tunnels were strengthened, more cells were created, the windows were blinded and even the towers were used as prisons. Inside them some inscriptions are found, they are in Latin and Hand made. In the towers there were balconies, where the prisoners were hanged.
Finally, we have to remember a famous inquisitor, Don Diego Rodrigo de Lucero who tried to accuse the Bishop Fray Hernando de Talavera, who thanks to Cisneros Cardinal could avoid this accuses. On the other hand in 1506, the Marquis of Priego raised a mob against this inquisitor and could free all the prisoners.
