The room, not very big, has on each side, a little column, that divides the room into thirds, with two groups of three columns disposed in a triangular shape, being the central one thicker than the others. This elegant order, sustains a vault with nerves, whose archs delimitate the octagonal shape. The rest of the corners are covered with three nerves vaults.
The shapes used are from the Plantagenet Gothic, coming from the occidental France, and you can admire in the Choir of Saint Serge in Angers or Sainte Radegonde in Poitiers. While it is true that the peculiar characteristics of this style have been passed with variants in Spain, as you can admire this in Monastery of Huelgas, Burgos, and the Old Cathedral of Salamanca.
One point of note is the elegance that give these small capitals carrying bows for training, while the columns that are fine, accentuating the verticality of the whole. Despite the erosion caused by the passage of years, the key central retains its original beauty due to its lush foliage, as happens with the smaller keys of the triangular roof.
The lightening of this room is carried out different points: the trumpet windows and in the vault. In fact there are little windows it the vault.
You can reach the last storey of the Lions Tower through a staircase, located in a small tower attached to the already cited. From this storey you can admire an impressive sight of the city. |
