Grids and Balconies
The contest "Grids and Balconies" was born a few years ago in order t
o keep the tradition of go on decorating the grids and balconies with flowers and includes it into the popular celebrations of May because the month of May is the month of flowers par excellence.
In this contest takes part all the grids and balconies in the historical centre of the city, and to be decorated with pots and natural elements or flowers. Its duration is the same of the "Courtyards contest" (Patios), and like in this contest, is granted a number of awards: three first prizes and three second prizes are given. The c
ontest lasts two weeks, but we can contemplate it every time we want. Even when the contest is over, we can continue watching for several months.
There are a lot of flowers that can decorate our wonderful white façades with its forged grids and its iron and stone balustrades, as well as they decorate the Cordovan courtyards, although the long hanging plants or flowers, such gitanillas type, or with bright pinks and bright colours tend to prevail.
This contest is widely accepted among the Cordovan people; in fact every year there are more participants with their grids or balconies. Nowadays there are twenty six examples of flowers compositions giving a great variety of colours and scents in the city, and marvellous corners where the tourist or the same Cordoban person looking to recreate their real beauty.
