Introduction


        The Festival of the Cordovan Patios is one of the most representCordoban courtyard San Basilio Street, 14ative and traditional celebrations of our city and, without any doubt, it is one of the most known outside Andalusia, because every year there are numerous people from other cities or even abroad, who come to know our courtyards.
        The contest begins after the Crosses of May, and during two weeks the patios are open to everyone who wants to visit them. The contest lasts two weeks and in the first one it is dedicated to the competition and in the second one the prizes are delivered. In the rests of the week the courtyards can be visited and the ones that are prized receive more attention. Nearby there are open air dances where the tourists can drink and danCordoban courtyard Maese Luis Street, 22ce listening to the Spanish music.
        The Contest is organized in two categories: on one hand you can see the category “Ancient Architecture”, involving those courts which have hardly reforms and maintain its old character, and which are awarded three first prizes and six second prizes. And on the other side, the second category is “Modern and Renewed Architecture”, they belong to patios that have undergoSan Basilio, 17 participates in the competition of Grids and Balconiesne changes in structure or decoration, or simply those which are newly built following the traditional line, and they also give them: two top prizes and five second prizes. To these categories are summed the others that don’t take part in the contest, but they are open to the public.
        On the other side there is a contest whose name is Grids and Balconies. This one happens at the same time of the patios contest. This time the grids and balconies are decorated with flowers and natural plants. In this contest three prizes are delivered and others three lower in category.
        The organization of the visit is divided into three itineraries, which are organized around a map, where you can easily localized the different courtyards, and the internet surfer can access some of them to know a little more of our "patios", their features and their history.
