The wine tasting is one of the most important appointments of the
Cordovan May because of the importance of the wine sector in the Province of Cordoba. It is a trade fair promoted by the Council of Montilla-Moriles, and it has already performed XXV editions.
Its duration is five days long, it is after the Crosses and coinciding with the first Weekend of
Patios.
Its enclosure is in a space called Llanos del Pretorio, situated between The Chimeneon and the Vial, where the wine cellars set up their stands and where you can taste their wines. These stands are set up like stalls into a closed enclosure on the Albero sand (this is the sand used into the bullrings). The most important wine cellars are:
Bodegas Toro Albala, Sociedad de Plateros, Silversmiths Society,
Cooperative la Aurora,
Auto Group "La Loca Racing",
Cruz Conde..... and so on till thirty-five known stands in our province.
These wines belong to Montilla-Moriles denomination and there are different kinds:
"Young White Wines", with fruit taste and dry taste, with 10 and 12 grades. Another variety is the
"Fine", a pale and dry wine, a little bitter, with around 15 grades. This last can be drunk with a good "tapa". The
"Amontillado" is a dry wine, smooth and full at the same time with 16-18 grades, although the older can reach 22 grades. This wine can be drunk with dry seeds, ham, cheese or pate. The
"Oloroso" (Fragrant Wine) is very strong, is full and has a velvet taste with 16-18 grades, it can reach 20 grades. It is perfect to accompany pasta, blue cheese, and at the table to red meat. Another wine is
"Pedro Ximenez", it is very sweet, is a thick wine charged with natural scents and smooth into the mouth. It has 13-15 grades and the most important are:
"Pale Dry",
"Medium",
"Pale Cream" and
"Cream".
To enter into the wine Taste enclosure you have to buy a
Taste Voucher. Its price is 6 euros and in its price it includes the entrance, a catavino (a typical Cordovan glass) and five consumptions. The
Couple Voucher costs 9 euros and it includes two catavinos, and five consumptions.
Besides if you want you can have a guided wine taste. It is guided by a specialist that can teach you how taste the wine with its colours. Without any doubt it is a wonderful place to spend a fine time with friends and family.
