Introduction
In this section we are going to speak about the "Cordovan May" and w
e are going to explain the importance of this month in Cordoba. The month of May is the month of good weather, the flowers and above all the parties. Well known by the Spanish of all communities and, increasingly, by foreigners from all corners of the world. Most of the tousists come in this month because of the weather and the scent of the flowers, orange flowers, and the popular parties.

ous but the first celebration in May, takes place in April, the last weekend of April, as the Cordovans could not wait till the arrival of May. So on 29th of April starts the Battle of Flowers celebration. In this one there is a parade of charriots along the city and they throw a lot of flowers each others. This is a peaceful battle full of colours and scents, that welcome the special month of the city: May.
In the first days of May there is the popular contest of the Crosses of May. The crosses are made with flowers, carnations normally, and the sorrounding is decorated with typical Andalusian taste. Every corner of the city is full of crosses. These places are special parts for drinking and spending a good time listenin
g to the traditional music.
The next week begins the Courts contest (concurso de patios) all together with the Wine Taste. The wine taste is focused on the trade of wines where the Montilla Moriles wines are promoted as well as others, al Andalusians. It has become very popular these days and where we can enjoy a variety of wines, many of which are of remarkable quality.
During the next two week the Popular Court Contest starts. For this part we are going to dedicate a wider section, because we believe that is the celebration with a higher cultural component in the month of May. In the contest a great number of courts take part, in it the visitor can know the traditional co
rdovan court in a whitewashed space full of scents, colours and flowers, that creates a special atmosphere which I find very difficult to explain in words, so we invite you to know them.
Finally during the last days of the month of May, the Nuestra Señora de la Salud Fair takes place. It is celebrated in the fair enclosure of Arenal, where a great number of stalls are set up. All kind of trade can set up a stall (caseta). For example there are stalls set up by: brotherhoods, universities, trades, banks, political parties or they are set up for an aim… In the stalls you can eat, drink, dance or sing.... Then in another zone of the fair there is a section dedicated to children: the funfair with rollcoasters, dodgers, etc.
In this month of May there are also other festivals such as: Cabalcor, related to horses and the Pilgrimages, which we will open their respective sections in the future.
