Saint Dominic of Silos: The Church

The Saint Dominic of Silos Church is situated in the small town, very close to theSaint Dominic of Silos outside walls that separated the Ajerquia to this church, in the section that has the same name. It was one of the thirteen churches founded by Ferdinand III the Saint. Nowadays it is situated in the Society of Jesus Square between Pompeyos Street and Reloj Street.
Are very few remains of the church and now is used as Historical Filer of Córdoba City and for this reason it suffered numerous modifications in the XX Century in order to adapt this building to the new aim. Only its Conception Chapel is conserved and the tower of the church is dated of the XVIII Century.
We hardly know dates of this church, we only know that in 1397 the Conception Chapel was built and Brotherhood of the Escribanos Públicos (public writers), when the years passed otherSaint Dominic of Silos outside religious buildings were set like: The Savior and Saint Dominic of Silos Church, all built at the end of the XVI Century or the Saint Victory College Church.
The Saint Dominic of Silos Section was founded shortly after the takeover of the city in 1236, but construction of the church was delayed until the second half of the century, when several priests were appointed to occupy it. As in other cases, it is thought that some may have benefited theDetail of the Saint Dominic of Silos Tower neighborhood mosque to perform religious ceremonies until the beginning of work.
Of the church only remain the arches of the nave however they are widely restored due to the restoration in the 80s. The pointed arches, without any mouldings are thick. Pillars have a squared shape with sticks. It is supposed that the naves were covered by large wooden ceilings. It is supposed to be built on the plot of a mosque.
In 1762 a tower was built. It is badly conserved. It has a squared shape and it shows a baroque style (cordoban baroque made with boards). It has two parts, in the lower part there are rectangular walls and crowned by triangular pediments, the second part is flanked by two long pillars that link the second part. This part has roman arches in each side.
