The Brotherhood


Complete Name.
Venerable and Illustrious Brotherhood of Blessed Sacrament and Penitents Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Humble in the Crowning with Thorns and Our Mother and Lady Saint Mary of Mercy.

History.
It was founded in 1954 by a group of parishioners led by Priest Don Manuel Márquez González, most of them workers at the CEPANSA, who wanted to remember the Patron Saint of their city, Virgin of Mercy.
On Holy Monday in 1958 it appears in the Official Itinerary for the first time. In 1976 it is blessed and in 1978 Our Father Jesus Humble in his Coronation of Thorns is carved, which begins processing in 1980.
The years passed and the patrimony of the Brotherhood of The Mercy increased and it reaches the nowadays aspect. During that time a new canopy is made for the processional pass of the Virgin of Mercy, a new image of Our Lord is blessed, begins the processions, begins the performance of the canopy as can be seen today in the street, even there are Christmas campaigns and there is collaboration with the prison. In 1997 a new processional pass is created and it goes out the same Holy Week. In that year the town council asked for coming to the Processions on Holy Monday, in fact previously they were on Dawn Friday, during 5 years.

Temple.
Church of Saint Anthony of Padua. It is situated at the end of the Agrupación Córdoba Avenue. The Brotherhood goes out from a space close to the temple, where there is a widow plot presided by the Brotherhood. The temple has three naves separated by columns, being a typical 50s construction.

The tunic and the cloak are white ivory, and the belt in leather.

Our Father Jesus Humble in his Coronation of Thorns.
Jesus, crowned with thorns, it is tortured by the romans whereas a executioner teases him.

  • Author: Francisco Buiza (1978). The images which accompany the image are by Francisco Pinto Berraquero (1981).

  • Processional Pass: It goes out in 1997 for the first time, it is illuminated by candelabrums. The carpentry is made by Bailac (1997) with the design by Antonio Martin Fernández (1997-99). The silver golden work of the images are made by Villarreal (1985). The Potencies (light rays coming out of his head) are made by Díaz Roncero (1996). Silver cartouche on the front of the airhole, made by Manuel Valera Pérez (2009).

  • Bearers (Costaleros): 40.

  • Tunics: Tunic, cloak and scapular in ivory colour and leather belt, along the lines of Mercy habit.

  • Flowers: Red carnations.

Virgin under Canopy.

  • Processional Pass: With golden silver work, the sticks, and the candelabrums of 94 pieces made by Navarro, the podium an the jars, in nickel silvered, are by Manuel de los Ríos. The canopy and the cloak, both in blue velvet, are embroidered in golden by Piedad Muñoz (1985-1996) and the drawings by Fray Ricardo de Córdoba, as well as the overcoat (1990). The veil, in red velvet, has golden embroiders by MM. Filipenses (70s). The crown was made in silver by Diaz Roncero, designed by Rafael Rueda, blessed on 23rd September 2001.

  • Bearers (Costaleros): 30.

  • Tunics: Tunic and cap in white ivory and the leather belt, following the mercenary tunic.

  • Flowers: Carnations and white roses.

Outstanding Badges.

  • Guide Cross and lanterns made by the silvergolden work Manuel de los Ríos and restored by José María Navarro. In the upper part of the cross, two angels bring the mercenary shield and a thorns crown, on both sides of the Dulce Nombre de Jesus, which centers the middle part.

  • The Penitencial Flag (1998) from Damasco, in bone colour with the red cross with stick and silver golden work decoration by Ramón León Peñuelas.

  • Crown of Thorns in metal wich remembers the iconography of Our Lord.

  • Sacramental Script with the embroiders of the sevillian Workshop by Caro (1999). The drawings by Francisco Pérez Artés and the stick by León Peñuelas.

  • Book of Rules wrapped with red velvet and silver, with the Emblem of Mercy set in the center.

  • Conceptionist Flag embroidered on the blue damask colour by Mercedes Castro Pareja. The drawings by Antonio Cuadrado and the stick made in silver golden work by Leon Peñuelas.

  • Banner of the Brotherhood (1988) with the mast carved in the Villarreal workshops, and the cloth in velvet embroidered in the Paquita Aguayo and Antonio Pozo workshops, the drawings by Fray Ricardo de Córdoba.

  • Speaking Trumpets by Manuel de los Ríos restored by José María Navarro.

  • Little Flag of "Band of Bugles and Drums of Coronation of Thorns" (2001), embroidered in golden by Francisco Pérez Artés, according its design and Manuel Valera. The finish off represents a Saint Raphael in silver drawn and made by Manuel Valera and the mast in silver metal by Díaz Roncero.

  • Crown of the Virgin (2001) in silver and golden of the workshops by Díaz Roncero according to Manuel Valera.
