The Brotherhood


Complete Name.
Brotherhood of the Immaculate Conception and Nazarenes Brotherhood of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Holy Sepulchre and Our Lady of Bereavement in her Solitude.

History.
It keeps the ancient Brotherhood of the Immaculate Conception and the Holy Sepulchre, one founded in the XV Century by the public writers and the other by the Convent of the Carmen of New Door. In 1837 they are moved to the Church of the Society of Jesus, revitalizing itself in the 30s and then, closed in 1973. A year later it is refounded by a group of young people who make the nowadays aspect. It makes the Penitence Station into the Cathedral since 1986, joining the parade the Virgin of of Bereavement in her Solitude in 1995.

  • Author: An anonymous work of the beginning of the XVII Century.

  • Processional Pass: It is a newmanierist work, golden and polychromated in black colours, and made of silver. On each corner there is a great octagonal lantern, and a total of 12 lanterns disposed along the perimeter. The designs of the image as well as the carpentry are made by Juan Pérez Sánchez and Manuel Valera Pérez. The oil paintings are by Luis López de Pereda following the iconographical design by Pedro Cabello Morales. The golden of the polychromy is by Ángel Varo Pineda.

Our Lady of Bereavement in her Solitude .
Virgin under Canopy, accompanied by St. John the Evangelist and St. Mary Magdalene.
  • Author: The Virgin is a work made by Luis Álvarez Duarte, 1977, and the images are by Saint John and Saint Mary Magdalene is made by Miguel Ángel González Jurado, 1995.

  • Processional Pass: It is made in silvergold work by Marín (1995-97), with the candelabrums and 116 pieces. The canopy is in red velvet with silver nickel, inside the drops are by Marín (1995-97); the cloak is in black velvet with the golden embroiders of the XIX Century. The eight relic keepers (1995 and 1999), are in silver, and they keep the Carmelites' relics. The saya (dress of the Virgin) with deep red embroiders are made in the XIX Century, embroidered by Francisco Pérez Artés in 1992. The crown is in silver overgilted with a basket of the XVIII Century and by Zamorano and Manuel Valera (2003). The golden embroiders are made in the XVIII Century in white natural silk (1998). The clothes are made in the XIX Century, made in silk, with white golden embroiders and with stars in the rear side (1998). The chest cross, of Mgr. Infantes Florido, a cordovan Bishop, was donated in 1995 to the Brotherhood. The tunic and the cloak of Saint John has the embroiders of the XIX Century, made by Francisco Pérez Artés (1996); the tunic of the Magdalene is in blue velvet with silver embroiders, XIX Century and the cloak is in silk, golden, embroidered by Rosado Borja in 2004. The nimbus, in silver are by Marín (1995) and the oil bottle in silver, by Damián Castro, made in XVIII Century. The wax of the candelabrums of the canopy, bring the shield of the Brotherhood, the ancient Brotherhood of Immaculate Conception, the Bishop in the previous round the Marys, and the four candles on the base of the Carmen Calced, Parish of Saviour and Saint Dominic of Silos and the Abbot of Holy Cross in Gerusalemme in Rome.

  • Simpecado (Conceived Without Sin) made by Francisco Pérez Artés in 1998 with the embroiders of the XVIII Century and the oil by Luis López de Pereda on blue velvet.
