Deanes Door

Another access we can go into the Naranjos Court by the western side is Deanes Doorde Deanes Door. The origin of this door comes from the primitive Mosque Alhama of Córdoba that was performed by Abd-Al-Rahman I at the end of the VIII century.
Despite its numerous reforms, it presents a usual configuration of the Muslim buildings, where a shouldered door is into a horseshoe blind arch, framed with alfiz and crowed by a tejaroz (little roof) puiled up by modillones.
Though the most important thing is its internal structure, that of the Naranjos court. The composition is quite different from the external one, like Don Pedro Marfil said: "..a shou / tered arch withBehind the Deanes Door a discharge arch on, that isn’t a half circle, but whose curve is prolonged cut, in the lintel, for disguise in into horseshoe shape. Its vassoirs are alternated with stones and bricks. As arcaic characteristics of this door you find a wide horseshoe shape".
Since the Christian period it is know as Deanes door. Dean is the person who has the dignity of Th church. Being its main function to preside the Cabildo when there isn’t the bishop. The bishop moved frequently to places and they assist to the crown acts. So the Dean played an important role inside the Church; he had his own door to get into the Cathedral. In front of that he waited for the Cabildo members, when they arrived they guide him to the Main Altar and the Choir place where he would ploclamated as the Dean of the Cathedral. This is the reason because this door is named "Deanes Door".
