The walls that protected the city fitted perfectly with those
roman. With a

total of seven doors. Ibn Baskuwal made a list of these: the
Door of the Roman Bridge (
Bab al-Qantara) situted by the
Roman Bridge; the Iron Door (
Bab al–Hadid), also known like Zaragoza Door (
Bab al–Zaraqusta) situated in the east side, near to the south east part; the Toledo Door (
Bab al–Talaitula) heiress of the ancient roman door that leads to the Augusta Door; the Jewish Door (
Bab al –Yahud),situated in the north side of the walls. The Door of Amir (
Bab Amir al–Qurasi), near of the Gallegos Door; the
Seville Door (
Bab Ishbiliya) the
Old Alcazar and the Almodovar Door, previously known as Nuttree Door

(
Bab al-Yawz).
Only the Almodovar Door is remained, so it represents a legacy of great value to our city. Among the muslim it was known as Walnut door it was built in the path that led to Almodovar. So since then 1236 it is known like this.
The door was built with sandstone bricks but a lot of parts were added later and they distort its original appearance. The main arch is pointed and it is flanked by two towers joined like a

bridge. Inside there is a barrel vault. The arch is framed in alfiz without any other decorations, the building is crowned. The wall is crowned by merlons.
Since 1965 there is a bronze sculpture of the cordoban philosopher
Lucio Anneo Seneca made by Amadeo Ruiz Olmos, being paid by the famous bullfighter Manuel Benítez "
El Cordobés". Seneca is represented with a toga and a roll in his hand, on a high pedestal.
The Almodovar Door begins an interesting itinerary along the street that comes with the wall, called
Cairuan Street or the
Wall Street. This itinerary ends with the
Averroes statue, this was a

Muslim philosopher, he also was a cordoban person... two personalities, two cultures, a millennium apart, that our city is reduced to just a few meters.
A former mayor of the city, Antonio Guzmán Reina, transformed the little stream that passed along the Cairuan Street, into a pond. The water came from the Almodovar Door. A recent restoration of the walls deprived the walls of amarvellous vegetation, only the cypresses are there.
Through this restorartion the ancient path was recuperated. From his path you can appreciate a wonderful view of this place, or you can enjoy the below it. So it has been able to recover the old way round the wall, higher than the rest of the street, and which allows those who want to walk through it, or sit and watch how the water drops from each of the pools of that pond.
