Orange Trees Courtyard in Viana Palace, Cordoba (Spain)

Orange Trees Court

It is similar to the one of the Mosque-Cathedral, it receives the name thank to Orange Trees Court Plansix centenary oranges that surround the central fountain. With a trapecio shape is one of the last courtyard of the complex. In the minor side there is a little pond with five pipes, decorated with blue ceramic tiles. In the rest of the surface there are cintas on the flowerbeds of the ground, standing out the ones put in the walls of the enclosure.
From the flowerbeds there are climbing plants that cover the white walls, like the glicinia, which covers almost all the wall. OnOrange Trees Court one corner grows a scenting heliotropo, with its blue flower, which was the favourite flower of the marquis. In the central fountain, which has an octagonal shape, it is covered by pots full of cow’s ears and water lilies. Besides, there are a lot of bougainvillae, celestinas, tibias, roses, lantana, geraniums and gitanilla.
One of the most interesting decoration can be admiredOrange Trees Court in the façade of the palace, opening four arches in the upper part. Two of them are a balcony on a corner and in the other two, a forged balcony. In the first floor, there are three doors from three different lounges with two balconies. The carpentry presents blue colours.
The noise of the water pipes, the half-light, the fact that you have to scrutiny every corner because you can not see it at first sight, gives to the complex mistery, loneliness, intimacy, rest.... to this beautiful place, transforming it into an unique place, where the time seems be stopped for some minutes.
