Portuguese Lounge in Viana Palace, Cordoba (Spain)

Portuguese Lounge

It is a little lounge, with rectangular plan, and it receives the name because of thePortuguese Lounge origin of the different objects and furniture in it, in most cases brought from Portugal. In fact the last Viana Marquis was natural of Portugal. A wardrobe, two counters decorated with metal applications, a bank, two chairs and a mirror of Don Juan V or a carved table with bronze incrustations are the pieces inside this room, besides there are silver candle keepers, and a lot of different pieces of geat interest.
However, we would like to stop explaining two chippendale chairs of the XVIII Century, situated one in front of the other, in the middle of the lounge. The invetory of the palace have two "Don Juan V chairs of the XVIII Century", this is because the chippendale chairs were also known as "Don Juan V" inPortuguese Lounge Portugal. They have high and straight backs decorated with rocks motives, they have cabriole legs, the front ones, with balls handles, which are linked to the back ones, crossed with a chambrana. Both have a dark colour, a very common colour in the portuguese style from that moment.
Among all the paintings of the room one of the most important is an oil painting representing a hunting scene, this one was attributed to the Ruben school. A Crystal lamp illuminates the room, it was made in La Granja de San ildefonso (The Farm of Saint Ildephonsus), in Segovia, and a rug Kilim covers part of the floor.
